For my first box I received 5 samples…. nail polish… fragrance…. facial cleanser and moisturizer…fashion tape….and facial scrub/polish.

You have to add your email to a waiting list …. my sister and I both signed up sometime in early March… and we got our invite in time to receive the April box. And we both agree the price is worth it for what you get.

With the opening of Wegmans in October 2010 and the recent arrival of Elevation Burger in Hyattsville, it seems we in PG County are finally getting some options. And the trend seems to be continuing…. last night big news broke on the community listserv…… WHOLE FOODS is coming to Riverdale (Specifically Baltimore Ave/Route 1 and East West Highway in 2013). I guess Wegmans showed them that they could do well here….

And then this morning WaPo is reporting that Tanger Premium Outlets are arriving at National Harbor also in 2013.

Bring on the shopping!

About a week ago I realized it was time to re-stock my regular perfume – L L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani…. I’ve got maybe another weeks worth left if the bottle. So I started at Nordstrom.com….. No dice. Next up Sephora online. Not there either (I should have just Googled at that point but I didn’t).

Today was my sister’s and I annual Xmas shopping trip…. So I looked in every store… Nordstrom, Macys, Sephora, Ulta….. Nothing … I’m guessing its not being produced anymore….

Then we hit the Perfume Galleria….. They had it… and it was HUGE bottle……. but it was leaking . Um no. Sales lady kept telling me….We can sell it to you for a great deal. I was like No. I’ll pass (Hey if its leaking, air is probably getting inside, which would affect the fragrance). So when I got home…. I Googled….. Amazon had it! For more than half off! (which probably confirms that its not being made anymore).

Woohoo! Ordered!!

Signed up for Groupon, Living Social, and any other number of group buying sites? Do you pull the trigger without thinking things through?

A friend and I were talking yesterday at the Nats game and we somehow got on this subject and she mentioned that she has another friend that has sold a few soon to expire Groupons on Craigslist…. for the full price that she paid! What a great idea!

So the next time you realize you’re not gonna make it to that restaurant or Virginia Wine Tour…. head over to Craigslist… and re-sell. :)

Fun at Nordstrom!

A few weeks ago I received my invitation to Nordstrom’s Private Holiday Shopping Event (I got one last year but didn’t go).

The trigger for the invite is spending a certain amount (via a Nordstrom Card) which I did when I purchased this….

So I decided to attend the morning event at Tysons Corner. I had never been to the mall in Tysons. A previous employer had an office there that I had been to once or twice And i had also been to the Tiffanys located there.

Luckily due to it being early on a Sunday traffic was not a problem.

I took my mom with me. As we are walking into the mall I notice she is carrying a big Macy’s shopping bag!!!! I asked her to please fold it up ( hello! we can’t have a Macys bag at a big Nordstrom event… that would be like taking a Kate Spade handbag to a Chanel fashion show )

Her response: But my candy canes are in there!!

Me: What?!?!?!!?

Mom: Candy Canes! I hand them out to salespeople!!

This was the first time I had heard about any such activity… so I am sure I made a face….

Moving on…

We entered Nordstrom with my fancy ticket.

Silver platters of food, tea and coffee from Silver Service!

Waiters with trays of OJ, Water w/ Lime and fancy appetizers

I only bought 1 item, but wow! some of the other shoppers were going crazy!!

Then we went out and explored the rest of the mall. I did some damge in Pottery Barn, and my mom even handed out her candy canes, which the salespeople made a fuss over (since I am not one for fuss… and really want to avoid talking to salespeople at all costs anyway… I just smiled and tried to get out of the store as fast as possible).

We went to lunch as Coastal Flats….. it was all decorated for XMAS….. and I had an awesome Shrimp Roll …..

I continued my exploration of the MD-DC-VA area… with a trip to Tysons Corner for a Nordstrom Private Holiday Shopping event. (details in a later post) 10 points for every dollar spent…woohoo! And I thought I had a shopping problem… some of the shoppers at Nordstrom put me to shame….I had my one small bag with my earmuffs. Some people had so many Nordstrom bags they could barely carry them all!

Why get shoes… when you can get Booties!!!!
