I’m not exactly sure how my friends and  I started talking about Dangerously Delicious Pies at the Nats game (I think it was somehow related to an H St /Groupon discussion)…..

But we did and we decided to go there after the game…

Dangerously Delicious Pies is located on H St NE, right next to the H St Country Club (there is also a location in Baltimore).

We walked in, not sure what to expect.  It was crowded, but we were still able to get seats at the bar.
There is a big chalkboard with the days pie offerings (Sweet or Savory)….I’m going with Sweet since it was dessert time.  I was torn between Peach and The Baltimore Bomb.

Luckily, right before it was my turn to order Peach was crossed of off the menu…. so Baltimore Bomb it was.

What is Baltimore Bomb you ask?? Only pure pie awesomeness!!!

Berger cookies that melt down and swirl into a sweet vanilla chess (custard) filling.  Ask for it to be warmed ….

I picked up the Dangerously Delicious Pie Groupon a few weeks ago and can’t wait to go back and use it to buy whole pies!!

My friends R and A, along with myself all have summer birthdays, and usually we plan a Girls Weekend trip.  Last year was white water rafting (YAY for not dying!), and before that we’ve done Atlantic City.

This year I asked if we could stick around DC due to my upcoming trip to Florida….

So we started looking for something to do.  R found this site…..
They offered a Sailing and Baseball outing.

We agreed pretty fast….and bought our package.

We went to an O’s game back in May… and experienced a crazy Rain Delay, so I was a little worried about the weather… but the weather was great…. sunny and warm (but not crazy humid).

For the sailing portion they said we could BYOB, so at first we planned to bring our own beer/wine from home plus assorted snacks, but then I remembered DC sells beer/wine in grocery stores….. and since there is a Safeway right at the Waterfront metro stop I suggested we load up there. And load up we did… wine, olives, cheese, crackers , and strawberries!!

Then it was a quick walk to the Marina.  We loaded up and there was a pretty decent crowd (luckily no Potluck Bitch this time).  It was a great sail (about 2 hours), the best Irish Cheddar ever

…. and I am happy to report my sunscreen worked… No sunburn!!!!

Next up…..back on the Metro.. to Navy Yard… and OMG!  The train was packed… I have never seen it that packed… we literally had to shove ourselves on…. Luckily only one stop….. This is why I usually try to walk from Capitol South….

Next up, we arrived at the park… and I had already heard via Twitter that the Centerfield gate was out of Pudge Rodriguez bobbleheads (see Twitter is useful ), so we tried another gate… alas they too were out.

Oh well… its not like it was a Sasha Semin  bobblehead

We made our way to our seats (picking up maybe the best Grilled Cheese sandwich … ever!!!).

It was a great game …. Nats Won! (I’m 3 for 3 at Baseball games this year!!!)  Though there were some weird delays to the game, where we couldn’t figure out what was going on….luckily Twitter kept us informed about who got tossed!!

Sorry Dibble my friends and I didn’t talk about shopping…. but we did talk about pie.  Dangerously Delicious Pie to be exact.  We convinced ourselves to head to the H St corridor…. but I’ll cover than in the next post.

After the game everyone headed to the Navy Yard metro…. and WTF?!?!!?  Metro needs to run 8 car trains for their baseball express trains.  The platform was packed, but we somehow piled onto the 2nd train thru and headed to Gallery Place to catch the bus to H St NE……

As we careen towards the 2012 apocalypse, we’ve come across a few mini-pocalypses….

Snowpocalypse (1 and 2), SmarTripocalypse, and eggpocalypse to mention a few ….
This morning came the news that Stephen Strasburg  will undergo Tommy John surgery and be out for at least a year. Hence Straspocalypse.    Another day in DC Sports Fail?  Feels like it ….  but… Strasmas was a lot of fun while it lasted and it did give me a gift.   Strasmas got me watching baseball on TV again.

The 1994 Baseball strike basically killed any love I had for the sport (sorry… I’m not sympathetic to owners and players that are earning at least 6 figures…. bitching about $$$).  I watched the 1995 game where Cal Rikpen broke Lou Gherig’s streak, but by then Peter Angelos’ ownership had started killing any love I had left for the O’s and Mussina defecting to the Yankees was the final nail in the coffin.

I would still go to the occasional O’s or Bowie Baysox game (and then Nats game, once they moved here in 2005), but just couldn’t sit down and watch a game on tv.  Until  June 8 when Strasburg made his debut with the Nats.  I got caught up in the hype.    Then I started watching games when Strasburg pitched.  Then I just started watching Nats games no matter who was pitching.  I can name most (if not all) of the starters………. BEEEEEEEERNAAAAAAAAADINA!!!!! (It’s so much fun to yell out ).

So now what?

Well I’m going to the game tomorrow (and not just to get my Pudge Bobblehead ).

And in the meantime…..While I root for the Nats…. I will watch this guy dig himself deeper and deeper and maybe bond with some other Nats fans.

It’s pure awesomeness for SW DC…..

I work in SW DC and if you do too, you know lunch time options were a barren waste land of the usual suspects (Potbelly, Subway, McDonalds, a terrible pay-by-the-pound place, Quiznos, and the worst lunch ever).

Until say a few months ago when someone that I followed on Twitter, Re-Tweeted that Curbside Cupcakes was coming to Federal Center SW!  Woohoo… too bad it was my flex day and I was out of the office   But soon enough I followed them on Twitter and got to buy my own cupcake soon enough.  This introduced me to the concept of the Food Truck (all the rage in NYC!)

They are taking DC by storm....  but brick and mortar restaurants are not happy.    They think the food truck is stealing their business.  Welcome to Capitalism.  Put out a good product and you will keep your customers.  I love me some Potbelly but I am not going to eat it every day.  People like variety.  (Especially people that buy lunch everyday).  I used to work in Columbia MD, and every  time a new restaurant would open my friends and I would say… “Can Columbia handle ANOTHER restaurant?”  The answer based on the packed parking lots was YES!

Sauca is near and dear to me… not only because they have Awesome Food!  (Holla Sauca Tuesday ) But because they actually come to Federal Center SW (actually not even that… they park right across the street from my office).  Most other DC Food Trucks only get as close at L’Enfant… and that is a hike.

And I finally made my way to the Cafe Asia location in Downtonw DC on I St NW. I must admit I was not impressed after I walked in.  Very bare decor which isn’t bad but it was [...]]]>

A friend of mine has been raving about the fried callamari at Cafe Asia for what feels like years…

And I finally made my way to the Cafe Asia location in Downtonw DC on I St NW.
I must admit I was not impressed after I walked in.  Very bare decor which isn’t bad but it was also way white and almost clinical in nature. 

Sat at the small bar on the lower level and ordered some Stella Artois (YAY for Happy hour prices!)  Sushi on special happy hour prices… so I ordered some of that too  (Yellowtail and Spicy Fresh Crab Roll) !

OMG! Forget the decor the sushi was awesome…. even better than Asian Spice!
I tried some callamari… it didn’t WOW me.. but it was good.

Be warned …. its Unisex bathrooms, but they were clean, so whatever….
