A friend has been raving about this place for a few years… and telling me I need to go. But for some reason I kept putting it off.
Luckily since my office is about 2 blocks from Zaytinya…. I finally decided to go with another friend for Restaurant Week Lunch….
We had 12:30 reservations, and there was a decent lunch crowd… but we were seated right away.
Started off with warmed pita bread (which usually I am not a fan of), but this was nice and crispy… and generally pretty awesome.
First course I went with Karpuzi Me Feta – Compressed watermelon, feta, kalamata olives, and mint. It was good , nice and summery, but took a long while to come out of the kitchen. (My friend ordered an eggplant dish and she was almost done eating by the time mine came out.)
2nd course – Seared Artic Char – Samke Harra-style with corriander, cardamom, pickled Lebanese chiles, pine nuts, and tahini – this was great. The sauce was awesome.
3rd course – Garides Me Anitho – Sauteed shrimp, dill, shallots, mustard, lemon juice – easily my favorite dish. YUM.
Dessert – Turkish Delight – walnut ice cream, yogurt mousse, honey gelee, orange caramel sauce, caramelized pine nuts. I’m usually not a big dessert person, but this was light and a nice summer treat.
I would definitly go back. Maybe for brunch. Or definitely for cocktails at the bar before the Canes play at Verizon Center.
