Review: Talara

My friends and I attempted to dine at Talara back at the end of January…. however we we arrived at the restaurant for our 7pm reservation…. we discovered they had no record of it (Can you believe they don’t use OpenTable??)  Since it was 7pm… on a Saturday night… while Restaurant Week menus were still in effect… they had no where to squeeze us in….but in true Make Lemons…. spirit… they gave us a hefty gift certificate to use on a future visit :)  (We ended up at Roy’s that night and had a great time.)

So we ventured to Talara again a few weeks ago…. with much better results :)  (it probabaly also helped that A confirmed the reservation 500 times :P).

First up … drinks!

I had a Cucumber Gin Mojito — Made with Hendrick’s Gin and fresh cucumber(Cucumber must be the new IT drink ingriedient…. i’ve had both a Cucumber Mojito and Cucumber Margarita recently)

Next up food……. Talara has both Entrees and a substantive Tapas menu…. along with a Seviche Bar.  We decided to do Tapas….

Started with Seviche -  GINGER TATAKI W/Yellowtail… Quickly seared “a la plancha” to a cool rare and dressed with
toasted garlic ponzu, grated ginger, shaved fennel and a drizzleof wasabi mayo.

Next up – Various Tapas

ROASTED BEET SALAD – Spinach, Roasted Beets, Candied Pistachios, Capriche de Cabra
Goat Cheese, Carrott and Red Pepper julienne, with a Mango Balsamic Vinaigrette – This was pretty good.. also my first experience actually eating beets… for some reason purple food frightens me :P

WILD MUSHROOM FLATBREAD – Shitake, Oyster & Portobello, roasted tomato, goat cheese,kalamata olive and chimichurri sauce – -This was completely AMAZING!!!! If you go to Talara order it….. in fact order two!!!

BISTEC — Quesadilla style with your choice of Seared filet mignon with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms and Jarlsberg cheese on Lavosh crisps.  This was awesome too.


Also… Latino Sushi –

TUNA CRUDO – #1 grade ahi tuna sashimi style with sea salt, cracked black
pepper, extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, and aged balsamic served with a citrus arugula salad… SO GOOD… could have ordered a second of this also…

Finally.. I ended with a Chocolate Flan… and glass of red wine…….. YUM!


Talara totally made up for the initial lost reservation…. and seems like a pretty rocking spot for that area of Baltimore (I think its officially called Harbor East… but its pretty much sandwiched between Little Italy and Fells point).  Good Food.  Good Drinks.  Prices are not crazy….. Go and have a fun night with your friends :)
