Notice anything odd with this image?

I was perusing my Google Reader today, and came across an article about a new Whole Foods opening in Friendship Heights.   For some reason I thought this was close to where I live ( the big black X), but upon further reading discovered no…not really.  So then I went to the Whole Foods site to see where the closest one would be….

Um yeah… there is a like a big line down the center of DC… I guess Whole Foods can’t cross that line?!!?  Weird.

Especially since the article on We Love DC highlights that  Whole Foods main seafood distributor is located in Landover.

On the plus side Landover (aka Woodmoore… right near Fed Ex field) is getting a Wegmans in 2010 (I’ve heard Oct!)

  • So close, but yet so far, huh? The line of WFM demarcation is interesting! I bet that the new Wegmans will blow Whole Foods out of the water!

  • I am not trying to stand in defense of WholeFoods on this one (the picture speaks for itself, no?) However, if I am were a WF executive, I would probably give some explanation about an algorithm with the two heaviest factors being population density, and income. I know that there are parts of Prince Georges county that have high incomes, and there are parts with really high population density but do the two overlap in that large of a space?

The map still reads like bullshit to me though.

Hehe, don’t hold your breath for the Wegmans… it was originally supposed to be finished in 2008!

Weird – You think Whole Foods hates minorites AND college kids?! lol!

  • We live in Springfield and have access to both Whole Foods (just a short distance away) and Wegmans (in Woodbridge)…I much prefer Wegmans (better meats, better produce, better deli and bakery, plus lower prices), even though it’s a longer drive. Hope you get your Wegmans on schedule…

  • [...] And then I moved to Cheverly.  The closest grocery store is referred to as “Ghetto Giant” by the town locals.  I have been inside twice in my 18 months living here and the second time was a cat food emergency prior to SnOMG.  I usually head to the Safeway in Greenbelt or Bowie, since for whatever reason PG County cannot get a Whole Foods to save our lives, even though their main warehouse is located in… [...]

  • [...] With the opening of Wegmans in October 2010 and the recent arrival of Elevation Burger in Hyattsville, it seems we in PG County are finally getting some options.  And the trend seems to be continuing…. last night big news broke on the community listserv…… WHOLE FOODS is coming to Riverdale (Specifically Baltimore Ave/Route 1 and East West Highway in 2013). I guess Wegmans showed them that they could do well here…. [...]
